This article should assist in investigating concerns with Island browser performance when experiencing a decrease in normal browser responsiveness.
Performance concerns are typically grouped into two major buckets that require different troubleshooting methodologies:
Responsiveness: Responding to user interactions and commands
Connectivity: Establish and maintain a connection with the internet and other network resources
To troubleshoot responsiveness problems, you can perform the following checks:
1. Enable the “Memory Saver” setting within the browser.
Settings > Performance > Memory Saver > Enable
2. Close unnecessary open tabs within the browser
3. Close unnecessary programs that could be using system resources
4. Disable unnecessary browser extensions if any are installed
5. Clear browser cache and cookies
6. Restart the browser by closing all the open Island windows and then reopen
7. Restart the computer
To troubleshoot connectivity problems, perform the following checks:
1. If you are unable to access resources please see the “Verify Island Connectivity“ guide
2. If specific websites are affected:
Check for website outages or maintenance
Try a different browser or device if able
Flush DNS Cache:
Windows > Command Prompt > "ipconfig /flushdns"
Mac OSX > Terminal > sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
Linux > sudo systemd-resolve --flush-caches
3. Check to see if any proxy or VPN tunnels are used to connect and verify that they are functioning properly
4. Close out other programs that are connecting to internet resources and may be consuming network bandwidth
5. Disable unnecessary browser extensions if any are installed
6. Clear browser cache and cookies
